The OpenDaylight Project is an example of how openness, collaboration and innovation are changing the way networks develop. Open Source projects are helping the industry to move from vertical organized networking systems to horizontally organized networking eco-systems. Erik will use the Ericsson experience with ODP to draw lessons on how companies can collaborate on open source projects while protecting intellectual property and promoting standards. He will also point to parts of the network development challenge that will likely be solved outside of the open source community. The result will be an experience-based framework for incorporating open source projects in to the existing development process within the telecom industry.
