Network equipment providers following the NFV promise and starting to implement accelerated virtualization and virtual switching solutions often have radically different host Linux OS starting points and performance requirements than Datacenter operators. Yet over the course of a deployment cycle, the architecture, usage and validation challenges associated with open source components such as DPDKvSwitch, OpenDaylight and Openflow are often similar, especially for more complex service chaining scenarios.

This interactive session will go over our experiences in creating a service chaining layer in Yocto-compatible Linux, architecture and performance validation choices we made as well as guidance on leveraging the Southbound ODL APIs into DPDKvSwitch using Openflow.
